Milton Hershey School Hosts Its First Boys Leadership Seminar
Milton Hershey School hosted its first ever Boys Leadership Seminar focused on facilitating crucial conversations while taking advantage of opportunities. The event—a collaboration between MHS Student Character and Leadership and Alumni Relations—featured a panel discussion and breakout sessions with male alumni from various personal and professional backgrounds.
“I love an event that students can walk away from and say ‘I’m really thankful I decided to go—that was impactful,’” shared Tylor Teel ’11, MHS Transitional Living Assistant and moderator of the alumni panel. “Seeing our students and alumni connect in ways that produced raw and meaningful conversations is something I am thankful that I was able to witness.”
The event was structured to be a space for MHS male high school students to ask questions about what life looks like after graduation. These crucial discussions were built around the MHS Sacred Values and the Compass Project—the school’s character development curriculum.
“My ultimate goal is to provide all students with a comfortable space to share their thoughts and perspectives, ask important questions, and build meaningful connections with each other, staff, and alumni,” shared Sharice Johnson, MHS Coordinator of Student Character and Leadership Development.
Through programs like this, MHS inspires its students to use their voices to be advocates for themselves and the world around them. The MHS whole child approach to education prepares students to understand the importance of having crucial conversations, while giving them the tools to facilitate them in a healthy and respectful manner.
