2009 Alumnus of the Year: Dr. Mary (Trinh) Pentel ’86

Dr. Mary (Trinh) Pentel ’86 was the 2009 Alumna of the Year and the first female to earn this honor. She is the owner of Southside Dermatology in Jacksonville, Fla., practicing in general, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology.

She graduated from Pennsylvania State University as a University Scholar with a major in biology. Dr. Pentel then went on to earn her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University, graduating in the top of her class. She did her residency in the dermatology department at Brown University in Providence, RI, where she served as chief resident.

Dr. Pentel is active in her community and serves on several civic and educational boards. She is developing a program for children to teach them about skin cancer and sun protection.
