MHS renders dental care out of three school-based dental clinics to over 2,100 students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Each dental clinic typically operates with one dentist, 2 Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioners, and 1 dental assistant or an expanded-functions dental assistant. All clinics are equipped with state-of-the-art technology/equipment, including utilization of Dentrix Enterprise Dental Software, digital x-ray sensors, and intra-oral oral cameras, and specific clinics are equipped with lasers and nitrous oxide/oxygen.
We are currently seeking a full-time, year-round Registered Dental Hygienist/Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner (PHDHP) to provide preventive and interceptive treatment for oral disease as allowed by the PA Dental Practice Laws. Some of the responsibilities include:
• Provide comprehensive oral hygiene services to patients including caries risk assessments, dental/periodontal charting, radiographs, preventive procedures (oral prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, fluoride varnish application, dental sealant application, chemotherapeutics), and the provision of oral aids.• Deliver individual chairside oral hygiene instruction and nutritional counseling.• Cross-reference and update student roster to ensure all students receive preventive care. • Plan/participate in oral health initiatives, and provide oral health education for students, parents/sponsors, and MHS community.• Follow OSHA/CDC guidelines for sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning of instruments and operatories.• Maintain dental equipment/supplies and perform instrument sharpening.• Review clinic inventory and submit periodic supply orders.• Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. We offer our full-time employees generous health and insurance benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, etc.). Hourly pay rate: $27.00 - $36.00, pay is determined based on experience.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree required (graduate of an ADA accredited school of dental hygiene).
- Minimum of one year experience in general dental practice.
- Pennsylvania State Registered Dental Hygienist license, Pennsylvania State Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner license.
- Ability to obtain RDH - 20 hrs. of Continuing Education every 2 years; PHDHP – 5 hrs. of Continuing Education in public health related courses every 2 years & Radiology Refresher every 4 years.
- OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens a plus.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to build rapport and work with diverse pediatric population of all ages.
- Computer skills and ability to learn new systems quickly. Familiarity with Dentrix/Dolphin preferred.
- Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS staff are role models for MHS students and HIPAA compliance/confidentiality is essential.
- Candidates should be willing to actively engage with students beyond the scope of their job responsibilities.
