Founded in 1909 by Milton and Catherine Hershey, Milton Hershey School (MHS) is a tuition-free private home and school for 2,100 pre-K through 12th grade students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since its’ founding, the lives of almost 12,000 children have had lives transformed through high-quality education and a positive, nurturing home life.  And the school is growing to serve more students.    

MHS is seeking a Home Life Training Specialist to provide training and support to MHS’s residential staff to ensure successful onboarding of new hires, as well as ongoing professional development for current staff.  This is an onsite position in Hershey, PA.  The salary for the position is between $56,119 and $74,919 plus an excellent benefits package.  This is not a 24-hour role, so housing is not included.  

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting needs analysis and developing training and developmental experiences.
  • Providing new hire orientation and training programs (including all affiliated logistics). 
  • Providing ongoing instruction, coaching and feedback to residential staff. 
  • Writing and facilitation Social Emotional Learning Curriculum.
  • Ensuring availability to staff for consults and advisements as needed. 
  • Monitoring progress, evaluating program effectiveness, and implementing enhancements.  
  • Providing reporting to management regarding outcomes. 
  • Participating in meetings to contribute to planning, programming, and employee development. 
  • Collaborating extensively within Home Life administration and the school to facilitate communication, continuity, and alignment.
  • Pro-actively learning and sharing new technology and updates within the school, as well as learning and employing new adult education approaches.   

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in training and development or related fields required.
  • At least 5 years of successful experience as a Houseparent or similar role.
  • Prior experience in adult education or training desired. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to educate, facilitate, collaborate, evaluate, influence, negotiate, and inspire. 
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and platform skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills including multi-tasking in dynamic fast-paced situations. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Apple applications, learning technologies, and social media. 
  • Driver’s license in good standing.
  • Maintain CPR and other safety required certifications, including driver’s safety instruction.
  • Available to work a variable schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must be eager to pro-actively engage with students.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all staff are considered role models for students.
