The Hershey Company Delivers Candy to Milton Hershey School to Support Halloween
Throughout Halloween week at Milton Hershey School, student homes are invited to participate in a safe, collaborative pumpkin decorating activity that involves hand-picked pumpkins from MHS’s Agricultural and Environmental Education (AEE) department and HERSHEY’S Halloween candy.
This fall, Taryn Hogeland, MHS AEE Instructor/Advisor contacted senior students of Transitional Living (TL) building Emerson and asked them to help harvest pumpkins for an upcoming student home activity.
“This small group was determined to harvest at least 200 pumpkins,” Hogeland said.“It’s exciting for students to see AEE come full circle on why farmers plant pumpkins and how they can be sold to customers for use through Project Market.”
Erika Love, Associate Brands Manager at The Hershey Company provided HERSHEY’S Halloween candy to complete the activity.
“Halloween is the biggest holiday of the year for candy makers, followed closely by Christmas, Easter, and Valentine’s Day,” Love said. “We are happy that MHS planned an activity that featured HERSHEY’S candy. We had excess HERSHEY’S Halloween candy that was able to be donated to the school for this activity.”
The Hershey Company is also involved with MHS throughout the school year through professional mentorship opportunities and Project Fellowship, a Hershey entities program that partners entity employees with an MHS student home.
“Our relationship with MHS is very special to The Hershey Company employees,” Love said. “We are thrilled any time we can provide support.”
The Halloween supplies were delivered to student homes this week and houseparents are tasked with organizing the activity while following the MHS Health and Safety Plan. Each student home will create a theme for their pumpkin and work together to create their vision using HERSHEY’S candy.
This student home activity is bound to spook up some fun at MHS. Student homes are encouraged to take pictures of their decorated pumpkins and share them on social media with the MHS community.
